A Jew-ish Wedding

Had a wonderful day at Carlton towers filming Alex & Davids Jew-ish wedding this summer. It may seem a bit of a strange title but all will be reveled when you check out the highlight. Thanks to some great speeches I didn’t really need to think too hard to title this post.

Carlton Towers

Carlton Towers is a beautiful stately home on a huge country estate. The owners have devoted nearly 30 years to maintaining and restoring the house and its parkland, and it is a credit to their hard work and commitment. It was our first time shooting there and although we had previously done some research it just doesn’t beat seeing it in all its splendor. You could literally spend all day wandering around shooting all the little details and some of the wide open spaces. I also love the lighting in there and the large windows let light stream in during the day adding a warmth to the interior.

A Cultural mix

It was really great that Alex and David had embraced both their cultures and decided to include elements of both. They chose not to have a Chuppah but had a beautiful arrangement which formed an arch at the end of the aisle. They also smashed the glass at the end of the ceremony which is always a fab moment and this coupled with the Israeli dancing made for such an energetic party. Thoroughly enjoyed working with Storm function band again and listening to the fab entertainment they provided.

Setting the scene

I really loved the build up in this wedding highlight, its such a mix of excitement and anticipation. Set against a beautiful back drop and with a very cool couple it represents what I feel to be some of our best work. We are constantly trying to come up with new ways to tell the story and break with convention a little. I think a good wedding film is always a mix of documentary style content mixed with movie style shooting. A Wedding in Harrogate

Enjoyed a welcome return when filming a wedding in Harrogate at the Old Swan Hotel.  Carly & Mike’s beautiful Jewish wedding was a spectacular affair, and such a great honor for us to be able to cover the day. Having filmed their before we new what a beautiful place it was. The architecture and styling is incredible, from its revolving doors to its glass ceiling in the Wedgwood Restaurant, the Hotel exudes romance and mystery. It was to this tranquil haven that the mistress of crime-writing, Agatha Christie, famously disappeared in 1926, resulting in a public furor over the 11 days that she could not be traced. The Old Swan is the perfect place for a Jewish wedding, having many large rooms and in such a welcoming part of the country. The large ballroom is a great place for a party, with high ceilings and decorative pillars, once dressed it looks quite special and is a great backdrop for the speeches.

The Wedding Day in Summary

So far this year we have been blessed with some beautiful weather and the sun certainly shone in Harrogate on this day. Carly spent the morning getting ready with her bridesmaids and Mike did the same before relaxing downstairs with his bestmen and ushers. I absolutely love days like this, there is so much activity and being able to walk between one room and the next gives you a great perspective. Watching the Chuppah take shape and the venue being dressed is so exciting and builds anticipation for everyone involved. Carley & Mike had planned this wedding meticulously and it showed. They also have to be one of the nicest couples we have worked with, they both had such a relaxed attitude and just took the whole day in their stride, enjoying every second of it.

Its Party Time!!

I have to say the Israeli Dancing is one of my favourite moments. It can get a bit hectic sometimes and having shot lots of Israeli dancing there doesn’t seem to be any way to predict how its going to go. Suffice to say the best option is to get in amongst the action, there are always a few knocks but getting these angles and covering everything that happens is so important. After Carly & Mike entered there was about 20 minutes of lively music and dance followed by the calm of the speeches. The rest of the evening just flowed by and the band did a great job in helping everyone enjoy the nights celebration. Really loved putting this edit together and look forward to the feature.

A Wedding at Lords Cricket Ground

It was great to travel down to London again and film Clare & Steven’s beautiful Jewish wedding. Our first time at Lords Cricket ground and what a place for a wedding. Steeped in history with the origin of Lord’s being linked to one man in particular, Thomas Lord. Thomas Lord was a cricketer and businessman, born in Thirsk, Yorkshire, in 1755 who came to London in to remake the family fortune. On 31 August 1787, Lord staged his first cricket match, between Middlesex and Essex at Dorset Fields and the rest is history.

More about the Wedding

Its fair to say that Clare & Steven’s wedding was a little different than the conventional Jewish wedding and we love it when couple mix things up a bit. Clare saw Steven before the Bedekken and there was a lovely moment as they met each other outside Lords before having photographs taken. Consequently the Bedekken took place shortly after and the couple then saw each other for the second time. Things pretty much followed the usual way and they had a beautiful ceremony facing the grounds in the ‘Long Room’. One of the things I love about Jewish weddings is the Rabbi’s speak so eloquently and Clare & Steven’s wedding was no exception with both attending Rabbi’s having special stories to tell about the couple and their respective families.

On into the evening

As with many Jewish weddings Clare & Steven chose an amazing band to help them celebrate and what a party. They both entered the room to loud cheers and the band went in to full swing. We were treated to some great speeches with a brief mention of the special connection that Lords Cricket ground has to Steven and then the party started with a great choreographed first dance until all the guests poured onto the dance floor and partied hard until the end of the night.

Competition - 2016

Just an incredible day filming at the Lowry hotel in Manchester and one of my favorite venues in the northwest. We had been looking forward to filming Jenni and Robs wedding since they had booked last year. We knew we would be in for a treat and a day of great celebration. I don’t think I have ever seen a bride more excited than Jenni at the Bedekken just before Rob arrived. The anticipation could be felt by all of us there and when Rob walked in there was an understandable gush of emotions. The ceremony was held under a very beautiful chuppah and the day just flew by on into the night.

Great to work with my good friend Ian Robinson again who did the photography for Jenni and Rob and also enjoyed working with Pure Orange once again who provided the incredible entertainment and finished off the evening with a memorable set. Well done guys and enjoy the highlight.
